Basement Waterproofing Engineers
EBI is Long Island’s premiere basement waterproofing expert. EBI engineers have diagnosed and solved thousands of basement water infiltration conditions dating back to the 1970s.
They are approved instructors by the State of NY Department of State and have lectured nationally to architects, engineers and inspectors for continuing education credits.
The EBI team has diagnosed and provided solutions to correct wet basements all over New York.
Basement Water Intrusion Survey
Over the past half century, more and more people have turned to their basement in order to expand living space. Often, this space is converted into playrooms for children. Many people fail to realize that the space they are finishing is essentially a hole in the ground. Only concrete walls and typically a 4 inch concrete floor separate the wet outside environment with the new basement furnishings.
Wood lumber and sheetrock are the first building materials brought into a basement during a remodeling project. This is the food source and catalyst for disaster.
What many owners have done is unknowingly create the perfect environment for insidious wood destroying insects and molds to exist.
Water + Wood = Mold = Wood Decay
As it is difficult to finish a basement without using wood, sheetrock, carpeting, etc.), it is essential that WATER be eliminated from the equation in a basement environment. This is easier said than done. Water transmission through the floor occur invisible to the naked eye in the form of vapor. This is what causes dehumidifiers to run continuously. Water can migrate into the basement area through many avenues. It is essential that the basement be analyzed prior to being finished in order to reduce the risk of water intrusion.
Inspection Leads to Detection
Engineered Building Inspections, P.C. can perform a basement moisture survey that will describe the existing condition of the basement including moisture levels in existing building materials. A report is generated that will highlight the vulnerability of the basement area and recommend processes to reduce the daily threat of water into the basement area.
